If you get nothing else from this website, please get a genetic test to diagnose the source of your inherited retinal disease (IRD). Genetic testing for retinal disease is readily available now. The Foundation Fighting Blindness offers FREE testing through their program called My Retina Tracker. You need to work with your ophthalmologist. If he/she is unable to help you get this testing, you need a new doctor (plain and simple).
Now, having said the above, the process is somewhat akin to the other testing you get from your eye doctor. They will find a LOT of info and in most all likelihood, will tell you that there is no cure for what you have. Sadly, today, this is the best eye doctors can do when it comes to IRDs (with a few notable exceptions).
But now that I have painted such a negative picture, I have to say the best clue we have now about the nature of a given IRD comes from genetic testing.
GET TESTED --- please.
